The change is in the wind. Quite literally. As the days start to get shorter, the mild chill in the air is palpable. Summer is retreating and winter is on its way. While the drop in the temperature is a welcome relief, your skin might be feeling a little drier due to the changing season.

Seasonal shift confuses the skin as wells as increases its workload. As we shift from Summer to Fall, the drop in the temperature and humidity pushes the skin to work harder to maintain adequate hydration as cold weather and wind start to kick in. The changing season disrupts the skin barriers, affecting its overall health. As a result, skin care becomes a tricky business.

Seasonal shift is also a fantastic time to refresh and rejuvenate your skincare routine. It’s perfect to time relook & rethink. Asses the new products, bring in a few newcomers (products) and chuck out the non-performers. Simply put, just update. Preparing in advance helps your skin fight these seasonal transitions. Here’s how you can switch up your routine as the season changes:

Hydrate more

As cold weather and wind start to kick in, your skin needs more hydration. Loss of hydration can lead to cracks in the outer layer of the skin. Those with dry skin can mix a few drops of Almond oil and Rose oil and massage the face with it for a few seconds. Almonds are rich in Vitamin E, which helps in nourishing the skin as well as reduce signs of aging. Those with oily skin can add a few drops of orange oil to Almond oil. Orange oil increases blood flow and collagen production.

Scrub a little

Thumb rule – End your day with a scrub. Mildly scrub your skin at night for not more than 10 minutes. It allows for the easy absorption of a skin moisturizer and makes skin look healthy and vibrant. While mint scrub gives a refreshing feel to the oily skin, Aloe vera scrub is good for both dry and normal skin. If you want to use a homemade scrub then mix a teaspoon of besan and rice powder. Add Khus-Khus, Aloe vera pulp, and juice of mint leaves. Those with extremely dry skin can also add ‘malai’. You got to try this to experience supple, smooth skin.

SPF power

Pick moisturizing formulas that come loaded with some SPF power. So you will have sun protection plus moisturizer in one bottle. At night, you can add two drops of lemon juice to your moisturizing cream and apply it on the face. Leave it for 10 minutes and then wash off. Loaded with Vitamin C, a few drops of lemon will help your skin refresh, repair and rejuvenate.

Mist is must

Let’s just admit it reapplying moisturizer during the day is something we are not very particular about. However, moisturizing your skin during the day is a must, which makes mist a must have product on your office desk. It’s a great way to reenergize and hydrate your skin without taking off the makeup. Take some Aloe vera pulp and mix it in water. Add a few drops of aromatic Jasmine oil and your mist is ready.

Soft touch

Do not neglect your hands and feet. They are the first to show the signs of changing season. Instead of oil, pick a rich moisturizing cream. Oil can get messy during the day, while a moisturizing cream is easy to carry and apply. At night, you can mix a few drops of lemon with honey and apply it on your hands & feet. Rinse off with water after 10 minutes.

Body beautiful

Orange oil is excellent for the the body. Take a loofah and sprinkle some orange oil on it. Now massage your body with this loofah.  You can also add jasmine or rose petals in the bucket full of water.  Leave it overnight. Bath with this water the next morning and give a refreshing start to your day.
